Is blogging a waste of time, or the internet an inanity?

Doris Lessing, the current Nobel Laureate thinks so. She says it loud and clear in her acceptance speech.

"How will our lives, our way of thinking, be changed by the internet, which has seduced a whole generation with its inanities so that even quite reasonable people will confess that, once they are hooked, it is hard to cut free, and they may find a whole day has passed in blogging etc?"

But Andrew Sullivan does a brilliant job in laying out an informed case against the notion that the internet and "Youtube, is making America stupid."

Yes, blogging can be a time waster just like anything else done without the required discipline or restraint. But it has far greater value than Ms, Lessing dares to give it credit for.

What are your thoughts on blogging?
